In Surinamese tradition, there is a ritual in which one covers oneself in pimbadoti, a white traditional clay, to connect with one’s ancestors and ask for guidance. Within De Appelhappers, I aim to connect with all seven gods by merging the symbolism of Dutch Catholicism with Winti traditions.
